Published: 08/13/2026 (08/13/2026, 17:21:32 UTC)
Source: GCVE Database
Product: openclaw-cli

Description

OpenClaw CLI's gateway component allowed unlimited unauthenticated WebSocket upgrade requests before enforcing session limits, leading to a denial of service condition. This vulnerability could be exploited by an unauthenticated attacker to exhaust socket and worker resources, disrupting WebSocket availability for legitimate users. The issue affects versions from 2026.1.29 up to but not including 2026.3.28. A fix is available in version 2026.3.28 and later.

Technical Analysis

The OpenClaw CLI gateway accepted unbounded concurrent unauthenticated WebSocket upgrade requests without allocating them to an authenticated session budget, allowing resource exhaustion. This flaw was present in the gateway's HTTP server and pre-auth connection budget components. The vulnerability was fixed by capping concurrent pre-auth WebSocket upgrades in commit cb5f7e201f. Affected versions are >=2026.1.29 and <2026.3.28, with the fix included in 2026.3.28.

Potential Impact

An unauthenticated network attacker can consume socket and worker capacity by initiating numerous WebSocket upgrade requests, causing denial of service and preventing legitimate clients from establishing WebSocket connections.

Mitigation Recommendations

A patch is available in OpenClaw CLI version 2026.3.28 and later. Users should upgrade to this version or newer to remediate the vulnerability.
