Openclaw cli: OpenClaw: Google Chat and Zalouser group sender allowlist bypass via policy downgrade (CVE-2026-33578)
Description
OpenClaw CLI versions up to 2026.3.24 contain a vulnerability where sender policy resolution incorrectly downgrades a route-level group allowlist policy to open, allowing unintended interaction with bots. This affects Google Chat spaces and Zalouser groups, permitting any member of an allowlisted group to interact with the bot despite intended sender-level restrictions. The issue is fixed in version 2026.3.28.

Technical Analysis
The OpenClaw CLI had a flaw in its sender policy resolution logic where, if only a route-level group allowlist was configured, the policy silently downgraded from 'allowlist' to 'open' instead of preserving the group policy. This allowed any member of an allowlisted Google Chat space or Zalouser group to interact with the bot, bypassing sender-level restrictions. The vulnerability affects the components 'extensions/googlechat/src/monitor-access.ts' and 'extensions/zalouser/src/monitor.ts'. The issue was fixed in commit e64a881ae0 by preserving the routed group policy. Versions up to 2026.3.24 are affected; versions 2026.3.28 and later contain the fix.
Potential Impact
The vulnerability allows any member of an allowlisted Google Chat space or Zalouser group to interact with the bot even when sender-level restrictions were intended by the operator. This could lead to unauthorized interactions with the bot, potentially compromising confidentiality, integrity, and availability as indicated by the CVSS score.
Mitigation Recommendations
A patch is available and should be applied. The issue is fixed in OpenClaw CLI version 2026.3.28 and later. Operators should upgrade to version 2026.3.28 or newer to remediate this vulnerability.
