Openclaw cli: OpenClaw: Google Chat Authz Bypass via Group Policy Rebinding with Mutable Space displayName (CVE-2026-35617)
Description
A vulnerability in openclaw-cli versions up to 2026.3.24 allows authorization bypass in Google Chat due to reliance on mutable space display names for group policy binding. This flaw permits rebinding of group policies when display names change or collide. The issue is fixed in version 2026.3.25 by enforcing stable group IDs for access decisions.

Technical Analysis
The openclaw-cli package's Google Chat group authorization mechanism previously depended on mutable space display names, which enabled an authorization bypass through group policy rebinding when display names changed or collided. This vulnerability was verified in version 2026.3.24 and resolved in commit 11ea1f67863d88b6cbcb229dd368a45e07094bff, which enforces stable group IDs for access control decisions. The affected versions are from 2026.1.29 up to but not including 2026.3.28.
Potential Impact
An attacker with low privileges could exploit this vulnerability to bypass authorization controls in Google Chat groups, potentially gaining unauthorized access or privileges. The impact is limited to confidentiality and integrity with no availability impact, and exploitation requires high attack complexity and low privileges without user interaction.
Mitigation Recommendations
A patch is available and should be applied by upgrading openclaw-cli to version 2026.3.25 or later. This update enforces stable group IDs for authorization decisions, eliminating the bypass caused by mutable space display names.
