Description

OpenClaw CLI contains a command injection vulnerability in the maintainer script `scripts/update-clawtributors.ts` that processes Git commit author metadata. This flaw affects contributors or maintainers who run this script on source checkouts containing maliciously crafted commit author emails. The vulnerability does not affect normal CLI usage or installed versions, as the script is not part of the shipped CLI. The issue is fixed in version 2026.2.14.

Technical Analysis

The vulnerability (CVE-2026-26323) is a command injection in the maintainer/dev script `scripts/update-clawtributors.ts` of OpenClaw CLI. The script extracts GitHub login information from `git log` author metadata and interpolates it unsafely into a shell command executed via `execSync`. If a malicious commit author email contains shell metacharacters, arbitrary commands can be executed when the script is run. This affects source checkouts with versions from 2026.1.8 through 2026.2.13 inclusive. The issue is fixed in commit `a429380e337152746031d290432a4b93aa553d55` and patched in version 2026.2.14.

Potential Impact

Contributors or maintainers who run the vulnerable script on source checkouts with malicious commit author emails may have arbitrary commands executed on their systems. Normal users of the OpenClaw CLI installed via npm are not affected since the script is not included or executed in routine operations.

Mitigation Recommendations

A fix is available in OpenClaw CLI version 2026.2.14. Users and maintainers should upgrade to this version or later to eliminate the vulnerability. Since this affects only the maintainer script and not the shipped CLI, normal users do not need to take action.
