Product: openclaw-cli

Description

OpenClaw CLI versions up to 2026.2.24 have an SSRF IP classification bypass where IPv6 multicast addresses (ff00::/8) were not treated as blocked or private. This allowed these multicast addresses to pass SSRF preflight checks. The issue was addressed in version 2026.2.25. The vulnerability is considered low severity as it is a defense-in-depth hardening issue and network fetches are limited to HTTP/HTTPS.

Technical Analysis

OpenClaw's SSRF IP classifier did not block IPv6 multicast literals (ff00::/8), allowing these addresses to bypass SSRF preflight checks. This was due to the omission of multicast ranges in the private/internal address classification. The vulnerability affects openclaw CLI versions up to 2026.2.24 and was fixed in 2026.2.25 by including multicast addresses in the blocked set. The network fetch/navigation paths are restricted to HTTP/HTTPS, limiting the impact.

Potential Impact

The vulnerability allows IPv6 multicast addresses to bypass SSRF IP classification checks, potentially enabling SSRF requests to multicast hosts. However, the impact is limited by OpenClaw's restriction to HTTP/HTTPS protocols and is considered a low-severity defense-in-depth issue.

Mitigation Recommendations

A patch is available in openclaw CLI version 2026.2.25 and later. Users should upgrade to version 2026.2.25 or newer to remediate this SSRF classifier bypass.
