Source: GCVE Database
Product: openclaw-cli

Description

OpenClaw CLI versions before 2026.2.14 contain a Local File Inclusion (LFI) vulnerability in the BlueBubbles media path handling. This flaw allows an attacker to specify arbitrary local filesystem paths via the mediaPath parameter, enabling reading and exfiltration of local files accessible to the OpenClaw process. The vulnerability is fixed in version 2026.2.14 by enforcing explicit allowlisting of trusted directories and canonical path containment checks.

Technical Analysis

The BlueBubbles extension in OpenClaw CLI accepted attacker-controlled local filesystem paths through the mediaPath parameter when sending media. If the media source was non-HTTP, the system resolved the path locally and read the file directly without restricting to safe directories. This allowed attackers to read arbitrary files such as /etc/passwd. The fix requires configuring explicit trusted root directories (channels.bluebubbles.mediaLocalRoots) and rejects paths outside these roots. The vulnerability affects versions >=2026.1.29 and <2026.2.14 and is addressed in version 2026.2.14.

Potential Impact

An unauthenticated attacker capable of triggering BlueBubbles media sends can read and exfiltrate arbitrary local files accessible by the OpenClaw process. This leads to confidentiality loss of sensitive local data. There is no impact on integrity or availability reported.

Mitigation Recommendations

Upgrade OpenClaw CLI to version 2026.2.14 or later, which includes the fix commit 71f357d9498cebb0efe016b0496d5fbe807539fc. Additionally, configure the channels.bluebubbles.mediaLocalRoots setting to specify explicit trusted directories for local media loading. This prevents reading files outside allowed paths.
