Source: GCVE Database
Product: openclaw-cli

Description

OpenClaw CLI versions from 2026.2.13 up to 2026.3.24 are vulnerable to an ANSI escape sequence injection in the ACP CLI approval prompt. This vulnerability allows untrusted tool metadata to inject ANSI control sequences into approval prompts and permission logs, potentially spoofing terminal output. The issue was fixed in version 2026.3.25 by sanitizing tool titles and expanding ANSI sequence stripping.

Technical Analysis

The OpenClaw CLI had a vulnerability (CVE-2026-35651) where ACP tool titles could include ANSI control sequences that were not sanitized, allowing injection of escape sequences into approval prompts and permission logs. This could enable untrusted metadata to spoof terminal output. The vulnerability affects versions from 2026.2.13 through 2026.3.24. The fix was introduced in commit 464e2c10a5edceb380d815adb6ff56e1a4c50f60, which sanitizes tool titles and strips full CSI sequences, and is included starting in version 2026.3.25.

Potential Impact

The vulnerability allows injection of ANSI escape sequences into terminal output, which can lead to spoofing of approval prompts and permission logs. This could mislead users or administrators about the state or approval of commands but does not impact confidentiality or availability. The CVSS score is 4.3 (medium severity), reflecting limited impact with no confidentiality or availability loss and requiring user interaction.

Mitigation Recommendations

A patch is available and should be applied. Users should upgrade OpenClaw CLI to version 2026.3.25 or later, which includes the fix that sanitizes tool titles and strips ANSI escape sequences. No additional mitigation is required beyond applying the official fix.
