Product: openclaw-cli

Description

OpenClaw CLI versions from 2026.1.29-beta.1 up to but not including 2026.2.14 contain an authentication bypass vulnerability in the sandbox browser bridge server. This local-only vulnerability allows any process on the same machine to access the bridge server without authentication, enabling full browser session compromise including tab enumeration, navigation, JavaScript execution, and data exfiltration. The issue is patched in version 2026.2.14. Users should upgrade or disable the sandboxed browser to mitigate the risk.

Technical Analysis

OpenClaw CLI's sandbox browser bridge server runs a local HTTP interface for browser control endpoints but lacked authentication enforcement in the sandbox initialization path in versions >=2026.1.29-beta.1 and <2026.2.14. This allowed local attackers to bypass authentication and perform actions such as enumerating open tabs, retrieving CDP WebSocket URLs, opening/closing/navigating tabs, executing JavaScript in page contexts, and exfiltrating cookies and session data. The vulnerability is limited to local access (CVSS AV:L) but results in high impact due to full browser session compromise. The issue was fixed in version 2026.2.14 by enforcing authentication on the bridge server and restricting bindings to loopback interfaces.

Potential Impact

A local attacker with access to the same machine can bypass authentication on the sandbox browser bridge server, gaining control over browser tabs and sessions. This includes the ability to execute arbitrary JavaScript in page contexts and exfiltrate sensitive session data such as cookies. The vulnerability does not allow remote exploitation as the bridge server binds only to loopback interfaces. The CVSS score is 7.1 (high severity) reflecting the local attack vector but high confidentiality and integrity impact.

Mitigation Recommendations

Upgrade OpenClaw CLI to version 2026.2.14 or later, which enforces authentication on the sandbox browser bridge server and restricts server bindings to loopback interfaces. Alternatively, disable the sandboxed browser feature by setting 'agents.defaults.sandbox.browser.enabled=false'. These mitigations prevent unauthorized local access to the bridge server and protect browser session integrity.
