Openclaw cli: OpenClaw has browser trace/download path symlink escape in temp output handling (CVE-2026-32054)
Description
OpenClaw CLI versions from 2026.1.29 up to but not including 2026.2.25 contain a vulnerability in the handling of browser trace and download output paths. This flaw allows symlink traversal that escapes the intended temporary output directory, potentially enabling an attacker with local access and the ability to influence output paths to overwrite arbitrary files. A patch is planned in version 2026.2.25 to address this issue.

Technical Analysis
The OpenClaw CLI package (npm) has a vulnerability (CVE-2026-32054) in its browser trace/download output path handling. Specifically, the handling allows symlink-root and symlink-parent escapes from the managed temporary root directory. This enables an attacker with local privileges and control over output paths to cause writes outside the intended temporary directory via symlink traversal, leading to arbitrary file overwrite. The vulnerability affects versions >=2026.1.29 and <2026.2.25. A fix has been committed and is planned for release in version 2026.2.25.
Potential Impact
An attacker with local access and the ability to influence output paths can exploit this vulnerability to overwrite arbitrary files outside the intended temporary directory. This could lead to unauthorized modification of files on the system, potentially impacting system integrity depending on the files overwritten.
Mitigation Recommendations
A patch is available and planned for release in OpenClaw CLI version 2026.2.25. Users should upgrade to version 2026.2.25 once it is published to remediate this vulnerability.
