Openclaw cli: OpenClaw has Canvas route hardening for mixed-trust deployments
Description
OpenClaw CLI had a security hardening update addressing canvas route access in mixed-trust or network-visible deployments. Previously, fallback authorization behavior could allow broader access than intended. The update requires explicit token or session-capability authorization and removes shared-IP fallback paths, tightening access controls. The risk is mainly for deployments exposing canvas routes beyond loopback or trusted hosts. Versions up to 2026.2.19-2 are vulnerable, with a patch targeted for 2026.2.21.

Technical Analysis
This vulnerability concerns OpenClaw CLI's canvas route authorization in mixed-trust or network-visible environments. Prior to the fix, fallback authorization mechanisms could permit unintended access, especially when canvas routes were exposed on LAN or tailnet. The update enforces explicit token or session-capability authorization, removes shared-IP fallback paths, and tightens bind/fallback behavior to fail closed, reducing the attack surface. The vulnerability affects versions up to 2026.2.19-2, with a patch planned for 2026.2.21.
Potential Impact
The vulnerability could allow unauthorized access to canvas routes in deployments where these routes are exposed beyond trusted hosts or loopback interfaces. This broadens access beyond intended boundaries, increasing risk in mixed-trust or network-visible setups. In strictly trusted-host, single-operator environments, the practical exposure is lower.
Mitigation Recommendations
A patch is available and targeted for release in version 2026.2.21. Operators should upgrade to this version once released to ensure explicit token or session-capability authorization is enforced and fallback paths are removed. Until then, restricting canvas route exposure to trusted hosts or loopback interfaces reduces risk.
