Technical Analysis

CVE-2026-41384 is a high-severity vulnerability in the OpenClaw CLI package where an incomplete fix for a prior issue (CVE-2026-4039) allowed environment variable injection through malicious workspace configurations in the CLI backend runner. The vulnerability enables injection of environment variables before spawning backend processes. The fix involves sanitizing backend environment variables before process spawn and was introduced in version 2026.3.24. Versions from 2026.1.29 up to but excluding 2026.3.24 are affected.

Potential Impact

Successful exploitation of this vulnerability can lead to high impact including confidentiality, integrity, and availability compromise of the affected system due to environment variable injection in the CLI backend. This could allow attackers to influence backend process behavior or execute arbitrary code in the context of the CLI runner.

Mitigation Recommendations

A patch is available and has been released in OpenClaw CLI version 2026.3.24. Users should upgrade to version 2026.3.24 or later to remediate this vulnerability. No additional mitigation steps are indicated beyond applying the official fix.
