Published: 08/13/2026 (08/13/2026, 17:21:32 UTC)
Source: GCVE Database
Product: openclaw-cli

Description

OpenClaw CLI versions prior to 2026.3.22 have an inconsistent sanitization issue in the handling of gateway host execution environment overrides. This flaw allows blocked or malformed override keys to bypass the shared host environment policy due to inconsistent sanitization paths. The vulnerability was fixed in version 2026.3.22 and later versions.

Technical Analysis

The OpenClaw CLI had a vulnerability (CVE-2026-35650) where the gateway host execution environment override handling did not consistently apply the shared host environment policy. This inconsistency allowed blocked or malformed override keys to slip through due to inconsistent sanitization paths. The issue was addressed by introducing a shared sanitizer with fail-closed diagnostics for blocked or malformed keys, ensuring all environment overrides are sanitized before execution. The fix was implemented in version 2026.3.22 and remains in subsequent versions.

Potential Impact

This vulnerability could allow an attacker with limited privileges to bypass environment override restrictions, potentially leading to high impact including confidentiality, integrity, and availability compromises as indicated by the CVSS score of 7.5 (AV:N/AC:H/PR:L/UI:N/S:U/C:H/I:H/A:H).

Mitigation Recommendations

A patch is available and should be applied by upgrading to OpenClaw CLI version 2026.3.22 or later. The fix ensures consistent sanitization of environment overrides, preventing blocked or malformed keys from bypassing security policies.
