Description

OpenClaw CLI versions from 2026.1.20 through 2026.2.17 contain a Server-Side Request Forgery (SSRF) guard bypass vulnerability. The SSRF protection failed to detect ISATAP embedded IPv4 addresses within IPv6 literals, allowing crafted URLs to bypass private IP filtering. This weakness permits SSRF attempts targeting internal or private network addresses via URL fetching paths. The issue is rated medium severity and has been fixed in version 2026.2.19 by adding ISATAP IPv4 detection and centralizing hostname/IP blocking.

Technical Analysis

OpenClaw's SSRF hostname/IP guard did not detect ISATAP embedded IPv4 addresses in IPv6 literals (format ...:5efe:w.x.y.z). An attacker could craft URLs containing ISATAP IPv6 literals embedding private IPv4 addresses (e.g., loopback) to bypass private-address filtering in URL-fetching components. This vulnerability affects openclaw-cli npm package versions from 2026.1.20 up to and including 2026.2.17. The fix, released in 2026.2.19, added RFC 5214 ISATAP embedded-IPv4 detection to the SSRF classifier and centralized hostname/IP blocking logic.

Potential Impact

The vulnerability weakens SSRF protections by allowing bypass of private IP address filtering through ISATAP IPv6 transition addresses. This enables SSRF-style access attempts to internal or private network targets when attacker-controlled input reaches URL-fetching paths relying on hostname/IP blocking. The impact is limited to internal network access attempts and depends on the presence of vulnerable URL-fetching code paths.

Mitigation Recommendations

A patch is available in openclaw-cli version 2026.2.19 that addresses this SSRF guard bypass by adding ISATAP embedded IPv4 detection and centralizing hostname/IP blocking. Users should upgrade to version 2026.2.19 or later to remediate this issue. No additional mitigation actions are required beyond applying the official fix.
