Openclaw cli: OpenClaw has unbounded memory growth in Zalo webhook via query-string key churn (unauthenticated DoS) (CVE-2026-28461)

Source: GCVE Database
Product: openclaw-cli

Description

OpenClaw CLI versions up to 2026.2.26 have an unauthenticated denial-of-service vulnerability in the Zalo webhook endpoint. Attackers can cause unbounded memory growth by sending requests with varying query-string keys to the same webhook path, leading to potential process instability or out-of-memory conditions. This issue is fixed in version 2026.3.1 by normalizing keys and bounding the tracking state to prevent unbounded growth.

Technical Analysis

CVE-2026-28461 describes an unauthenticated denial-of-service vulnerability in OpenClaw CLI's Zalo webhook endpoint. The vulnerability arises because the webhook tracking mechanism does not normalize query-string keys, allowing attackers to cause unbounded memory growth by varying query parameters on the same webhook route. This can lead to memory pressure and potential process instability or out-of-memory (OOM) conditions. The fix, introduced in version 2026.3.1, normalizes keys to the matched webhook path semantics excluding query parameters and bounds/prunes the tracking state to prevent unbounded growth.

Potential Impact

An attacker can cause memory exhaustion on the affected OpenClaw CLI process by sending unauthenticated requests with varying query-string keys to the Zalo webhook endpoint. This can degrade availability by causing process instability or out-of-memory conditions, resulting in denial of service.

Mitigation Recommendations

A patch is available in OpenClaw CLI version 2026.3.1 that addresses this vulnerability by normalizing webhook tracking keys and bounding the tracking state to prevent unbounded memory growth. Users should upgrade to version 2026.3.1 or later to remediate this issue.
