Critical
Published: 08/13/2026 (08/13/2026, 17:21:32 UTC)
Source: GCVE Database
Product: openclaw-cli

Description

Openclaw CLI versions from 2026.4.7 up to but not including 2026.4.14 contain a vulnerability where the heartbeat owner downgrade logic fails to properly handle untrusted webhook wake events. This flaw allows the preservation of an owner-like execution context when it should have been downgraded, potentially leading to unauthorized elevated privileges during webhook processing. The issue is fixed in version 2026.4.14.

Technical Analysis

The vulnerability in openclaw CLI involves the heartbeat owner downgrade mechanism missing untrusted webhook wake events. This causes the system to skip downgrading the execution context for webhook wake events carrying untrusted content, thereby preserving elevated owner-like privileges improperly. The fix, included in version 2026.4.14, ensures that wake and hook event reasons are inspected and forces downgrade for untrusted webhook wake events.

Potential Impact

An attacker could exploit this vulnerability to maintain elevated execution privileges (owner-like context) when processing untrusted webhook wake events, potentially leading to unauthorized actions with high confidentiality and integrity impact. The CVSS v3.1 score is 9.1 (critical), indicating a network attack vector with low complexity, no privileges required, and no user interaction needed, resulting in high confidentiality and integrity impact but no availability impact.

Mitigation Recommendations

Users should upgrade to openclaw CLI version 2026.4.14 or later, which contains the official fix for this vulnerability. Applying this update ensures that untrusted webhook wake events are properly handled and the execution context is correctly downgraded. No additional mitigation steps are indicated by the vendor advisory.
