Source: GCVE Database
Product: openclaw-cli

Description

OpenClaw CLI versions up to 2026.3.28 are affected by an environment variable injection vulnerability in the Host-Exec feature. This allows environment variables controlled by the user to influence interpreters, shells, or build tools during host execution. The vulnerability is scoped to the OpenClaw trust model and does not assume multi-tenant service boundaries. A fix is available in version 2026.4.8.

Technical Analysis

The OpenClaw CLI has a vulnerability in its Host-Exec feature where environment variables can be injected and inherited by interpreters, shells, or build tools. This could affect the execution environment in ways controlled by the user. The issue affects versions up to and including 2026.3.28 and was fixed in version 2026.4.8. The fix was verified with regression tests and committed to the main branch (commit d7c3210cd6f5fdfdc1beff4c9541673e814354d5). This vulnerability is scoped within the OpenClaw trust model and does not consider multi-tenant service boundaries.

Potential Impact

User-controlled environment variables can influence the behavior of interpreters, shells, or build tools during host execution, potentially leading to unintended command execution contexts or altered build processes. The vulnerability does not imply remote exploitation or multi-tenant impact but affects local execution environments where OpenClaw is used.

Mitigation Recommendations

Upgrade OpenClaw CLI to version 2026.4.8 or later, which contains the official fix for this environment variable injection vulnerability. The fix has been verified with regression tests. No additional mitigation is required beyond applying the patch.
