Openclaw cli: OpenClaw: Image pixel-limit guard can fail open on sips and allow decompression-bomb DoS (CVE-2026-41334)
Description
The OpenClaw CLI image pixel-limit guard can fail to enforce limits on the sips command, allowing decompression-bomb denial-of-service (DoS) attacks. This vulnerability affects openclaw versions from 2026.1.29 up to but not including 2026.3.31. The issue was fixed in version 2026.3.31. The flaw allows attackers to cause an availability impact by processing images with oversized pixel counts that bypass the guard.

Technical Analysis
OpenClaw CLI versions >=2026.1.29 and <2026.3.31 have a vulnerability where the image pixel-limit guard fails open on the sips command, permitting decompression-bomb denial-of-service attacks. This results in an availability issue due to processing of images with excessive pixel counts. The vulnerability is tracked as CVE-2026-41334 and was fixed in version 2026.3.31 by commit 0ed4f8a72bb140045962e97ab01c94c076b758a4.
Potential Impact
An attacker can exploit the failure of the pixel-limit guard to cause a denial-of-service condition by submitting images that decompress to extremely large pixel counts, exhausting system resources and impacting availability. There is no indication of privilege escalation, data disclosure, or integrity impact.
Mitigation Recommendations
Users should upgrade to openclaw CLI version 2026.3.31 or later, which contains the official fix for this vulnerability. Versions <=2026.3.28 are vulnerable. No additional mitigation is required once the update is applied.
