Openclaw cli: OpenClaw: Internal/webchat command auth could inherit ownerAllowFrom wildcard state (CVE-2026-53854)
Description
OpenClaw CLI versions from 2026.1.29 up to but not including 2026.4.25 contain a vulnerability where internal or webchat command authorization can inherit a wildcard ownerAllowFrom state across channel boundaries. This may allow owner-style command behavior to be executed beyond its intended channel scope. The impact depends on the operator's configuration and whether lower-trust inputs can access the affected paths. A patch is available in version 2026.4.25. Until patched, explicit per-channel owner command allowlists and narrow allowlists are recommended, along with disabling the affected feature if not needed.

Technical Analysis
The vulnerability in OpenClaw CLI affects internal and webchat command authorization, allowing a sender on these paths to inherit a wildcard ownerAllowFrom state across channel boundaries. This means commands intended to be restricted to a specific channel could be executed with owner-level permissions in other channels. The issue does not alter the trusted-operator model for authenticated Gateway operators, plugins, or local execution surfaces. The vulnerability is present in versions >=2026.1.29 and <2026.4.25 and is fixed in 2026.4.25.
Potential Impact
If the affected feature is enabled and accessible, an attacker or lower-trust user could execute owner-style commands beyond their intended channel scope, potentially leading to unauthorized command execution. The practical impact depends on the specific operator configuration and whether untrusted inputs can reach the vulnerable paths.
Mitigation Recommendations
A patch is available in OpenClaw CLI version 2026.4.25. Until systems are updated, operators should maintain explicit owner command allowlists per channel, keep channel and tool allowlists narrow, avoid sharing a Gateway between mutually untrusted users, and disable the affected feature if it is not required.
