Published: 08/13/2026 (08/13/2026, 17:21:32 UTC)
Source: GCVE Database
Product: openclaw-cli

Description

OpenClaw CLI for macOS has a vulnerability where its Wide-Area Discovery component accepts arbitrary Tailnet peers as DNS authorities and can exfiltrate operator credentials. Exploitation requires the attacker to be on the same Tailnet, be a CA-trusted endpoint, and rely on user selection, resulting in a medium severity rating. The issue affects versions from 2026.1.29 up to but not including 2026.3.31. A patch is available in version 2026.3.31.

Technical Analysis

The OpenClaw CLI for macOS contains a security flaw in its Wide-Area Discovery feature that allows an arbitrary Tailnet peer to be accepted as a DNS authority. This can lead to DNS spoofing and exfiltration of operator credentials. The vulnerability requires the attacker to be positioned within the same Tailnet, be a CA-trusted endpoint, and involve user selection to exploit. The affected versions are >=2026.1.29 and <2026.3.31. The issue was fixed in version 2026.3.31 with commit a23c33a681f8c1b22dc793995acc4c5c4b568346.

Potential Impact

An attacker on the same Tailnet who is a CA-trusted endpoint and can influence user selection may spoof DNS responses and exfiltrate operator credentials. This could compromise the confidentiality of operator credentials within the Tailnet environment. The impact is limited by the requirement for attacker proximity and trust status, resulting in a medium severity classification.

Mitigation Recommendations

A patch is available and should be applied by upgrading OpenClaw CLI to version 2026.3.31 or later. This update addresses the DNS spoofing and credential exfiltration vulnerability. No additional mitigation steps are indicated by the vendor advisory.
