Openclaw cli: OpenClaw: Node reconnect metadata spoofing could bypass platform-based node command policy (CVE-2026-32014)

Published: 08/13/2026 (08/13/2026, 17:21:32 UTC)
Source: GCVE Database
Product: openclaw-cli

Description

OpenClaw CLI versions up to 2026.2.25 are vulnerable to a metadata spoofing issue during node reconnection. An attacker with an already paired node identity can spoof platform and deviceFamily metadata to bypass platform-based node command policies. This allows unauthorized access to commands restricted by the original platform. The vulnerability is fixed in version 2026.2.26 by signing and verifying the platform metadata in the device-auth payload and rejecting mismatched reconnect metadata.

Technical Analysis

OpenClaw CLI's node reconnection process accepts reconnect metadata from clients without binding the platform and deviceFamily fields into the device-auth signature. This allows a paired node device to spoof these metadata fields and broaden node command policy eligibility. The vulnerability affects versions >=2026.1.29 and <2026.2.26. The fix introduces a device-auth payload version 3 that signs normalized platform and deviceFamily fields, verifies this version first, and rejects reconnect metadata mismatches, requiring explicit repair pairing to change pinned metadata.

Potential Impact

An attacker with an existing paired node identity on the trusted network can spoof reconnect metadata to gain access to node commands that should be blocked based on the originally paired platform. This can lead to unauthorized command execution with high confidentiality, integrity, and availability impact as indicated by the CVSS score of 8.0.

Mitigation Recommendations

A patch is available in OpenClaw CLI version 2026.2.26 that addresses this vulnerability by signing and verifying platform metadata and rejecting spoofed reconnect metadata. Users should upgrade to version 2026.2.26 or later to remediate this issue.
