Source: GCVE Database
Product: openclaw-cli

Description

OpenClaw CLI versions prior to 2026.4.2 contain a vulnerability in the OpenShell mirror backend where arbitrary absolute remote directory paths could be specified for cleanup and overwrite operations. This flaw allows an attacker who can influence these configuration values to cause deletion of unintended remote directories and replace their contents with workspace data. The issue is fixed in version 2026.4.2.

Technical Analysis

Before OpenClaw 2026.4.2, the OpenShell mirror backend accepted arbitrary absolute paths for `remoteWorkspaceDir` and `remoteAgentWorkspaceDir`. In mirror mode, these paths were used as targets for remote cleanup and overwrite operations, enabling an attacker who could control these config values to delete arbitrary remote directories and replace their contents with uploaded workspace data. This vulnerability was addressed by constraining the mirror sync roots in commit `b21c9840c2e38f4bb338d031511b479d5f07ca25` and fixed in OpenClaw 2026.4.2.

Potential Impact

An attacker able to influence OpenShell configuration values could cause destructive deletion of arbitrary remote directories and overwrite them with attacker-controlled data. This could lead to data loss or corruption on the remote system where OpenClaw mirror sync is used.

Mitigation Recommendations

A patch is available in OpenClaw version 2026.4.2 that constrains the OpenShell mirror sync roots to prevent arbitrary remote directory deletion. Users should upgrade to version 2026.4.2 or later to remediate this vulnerability.
