Openclaw cli: OpenClaw: Paired-device pairing actions were not limited to the caller device (CVE-2026-41909)
Description
OpenClaw CLI versions prior to 2026.4.20 contain a vulnerability where paired-device pairing actions were not restricted to the caller device. This allowed a paired device session with limited scope to enumerate global pairing states and act on pairing requests belonging to other devices within the same gateway. The issue is limited to same-gateway paired-device authorization and is not remotely exploitable without authentication. The vulnerability has been fixed in version 2026.4.20 by restricting pairing management actions to the caller device.

Technical Analysis
CVE-2026-41909 affects the OpenClaw CLI npm package versions >=2026.1.29 and <2026.4.20. The vulnerability allows a paired device session with limited pairing scope to enumerate and act on pairing requests of other devices within the same gateway scope. This is an authorization bug confined to the same gateway and requires a paired-device session with limited privileges. The fix, committed in 2026.4.20, limits pairing management actions to the caller device, preventing non-admin paired-device sessions from approving or operating on unrelated device requests.
Potential Impact
An attacker with access to a paired-device session within the same gateway could enumerate global pairing state and manipulate pairing requests of other devices. However, this requires existing paired-device access and is not remotely exploitable without authentication. The impact is limited to authorization scope within the same gateway and does not allow remote or unauthenticated attacks. The severity is assessed as low.
Mitigation Recommendations
A patch is available in OpenClaw CLI version 2026.4.20 that restricts pairing management actions to the caller device. Users should upgrade to this version to remediate the vulnerability. No additional mitigation is required as the issue is fixed in the official release.
