Openclaw cli: OpenClaw: Plivo V2 verified replay identity drifts on query-only variants (CVE-2026-35618)

Source: GCVE Database
Product: openclaw-cli

Description

Openclaw CLI versions prior to 2026.3.23 contain a vulnerability in the Plivo V2 verification path where query-only variants of the same signed request were incorrectly treated as distinct verified requests. This occurs because the replay key was derived from the full verification URL including query parameters, allowing unsigned query changes to bypass replay identity stability. The issue was fixed in version 2026.3.23 by stabilizing the replay key derivation to exclude query parameters.

Technical Analysis

The vulnerability in openclaw-cli (CVE-2026-35618) affects versions before 2026.3.23. The Plivo V2 signature verification authenticates the base URL plus nonce, but the replay key used for preventing replay attacks was derived from the full verification URL including query parameters. This discrepancy allowed query-only variants of the same signed request to be treated as fresh verified requests, effectively bypassing replay protection. The root cause was in the webhook-security.ts file where the replay key was generated inconsistently with the signature validation. The fix involved hashing only the base URL without query parameters plus the nonce to derive the replay key, ensuring replay identity stability. The fix is included in versions 2026.3.23 and later.

Potential Impact

An attacker could exploit this vulnerability by modifying only the query parameters of a signed request to bypass replay protection, causing the system to treat replayed requests as fresh and verified. This could lead to unauthorized repeated processing of requests that should have been rejected as replays. The vulnerability impacts the integrity of request verification in the affected versions.

Mitigation Recommendations

A patch is available and should be applied. The issue is fixed in openclaw-cli version 2026.3.23 and later. Users should upgrade to version 2026.3.23 or newer to ensure the replay key derivation correctly excludes query parameters, preventing replay identity drift. No additional mitigation is required beyond applying the official fix.
