Source: GCVE Database
Product: openclaw-cli

Description

OpenClaw CLI versions prior to 2026.3.22 have a vulnerability where remote media HTTP error responses are read without a hard size limit, allowing unbounded memory allocation before failure handling. This issue was fixed in version 2026.3.22 by enforcing capped reads and truncating oversized error bodies.

Technical Analysis

The OpenClaw CLI package (npm) versions before 2026.3.22 improperly handle HTTP error responses from remote media by reading the error bodies without a strict size cap. This can lead to unbounded memory allocation during error processing. The vulnerability was addressed in commit 81445a901091a5d27ef0b56fceedbe4724566438, which introduced bounded prefix reads and truncated oversized error snippets to prevent excessive memory use. The fix is present in versions 2026.3.22 and later.

Potential Impact

An attacker causing HTTP error responses with large bodies could trigger unbounded memory allocation in the vulnerable OpenClaw CLI versions, potentially leading to denial of service due to resource exhaustion. There is no indication of code execution or data leakage from the provided information.

Mitigation Recommendations

Upgrade OpenClaw CLI to version 2026.3.22 or later, where the vulnerability is fixed by enforcing capped reads on error response bodies. No other mitigation is required as the fix is available and included in current releases.
