Source: GCVE Database
Product: openclaw-cli

Description

OpenClaw CLI versions up to 2026.4.1 have a vulnerability where the resolvedAuth closure becomes stale after a configuration reload. This causes newly accepted gateway connections to potentially use outdated authentication state. The issue is specific to the OpenClaw trust model and does not involve multi-tenant service boundaries. A fix is available in version 2026.4.8.

Technical Analysis

The OpenClaw CLI suffers from a vulnerability (CVE-2026-41916) where after a configuration reload, the resolvedAuth closure becomes stale. This stale state may cause newly accepted gateway connections to continue using outdated authentication information. The vulnerability affects versions from 2026.1.29 up to but not including 2026.4.8. The issue was fixed in commit d7c3210cd6f5fdfdc1beff4c9541673e814354d5 and released in version 2026.4.8. The fix was verified with targeted regression tests to ensure the security boundary is properly maintained.

Potential Impact

The impact is that after a configuration reload, new gateway connections might use stale authentication state, potentially leading to incorrect authorization decisions within the OpenClaw local assistant environment. This could undermine the trust model by allowing connections to operate with outdated credentials or permissions. The advisory clarifies this is scoped to a user-controlled local assistant and does not assume multi-tenant service boundaries.

Mitigation Recommendations

A patch is available and should be applied by upgrading to OpenClaw CLI version 2026.4.8 or later. The fix has been verified and regression tested. Users should update to the patched version to prevent the use of stale resolvedAuth closures after configuration reloads.
