Openclaw cli: OpenClaw: Sandboxed session spawn could expose the real workspace path to child prompts (CVE-2026-53826)
Description
A vulnerability in openclaw-cli allows a sandboxed session spawn to expose the real workspace path to child prompts. This occurs when a child session is spawned from a sandboxed parent, potentially revealing the host workspace location or related memory context. The issue affects versions from 2026.1.29 up to but not including 2026.4.26. The vulnerability does not alter the trusted-operator model of OpenClaw. A fix is available in version 2026.4.26. Until patched, users should avoid spawning child sessions from sensitive sandboxed workspaces and apply recommended hardening measures.

Technical Analysis
The vulnerability in openclaw-cli (CVE-2026-53826) involves sandboxed session spawns that could forward the host workspace path into child session prompts. This exposure could reveal sensitive host workspace locations or memory context to child sessions when the affected feature is enabled and reachable. The vulnerability is scoped to the named feature and configuration and does not affect the overall trusted-operator model. The issue affects versions >=2026.1.29 and <2026.4.26. The first stable patched version is 2026.4.26.
Potential Impact
When the affected feature is enabled, an attacker or lower-trust input that can reach the vulnerable configuration might gain knowledge of the host workspace path or related memory context. This information disclosure could potentially aid further attacks depending on the operator's configuration and threat model. However, the trusted-operator model and other security boundaries remain intact.
Mitigation Recommendations
A patch is available in version 2026.4.26. Until upgrading, avoid spawning child sessions from sensitive sandboxed workspaces. Additionally, keep channel and tool allowlists narrow, avoid sharing one Gateway between mutually untrusted users, and disable the affected feature when not needed. These mitigations align with vendor guidance and hardening recommendations.
