Openclaw cli: OpenClaw session tool visibility hardening and Telegram webhook secret fallback (CVE-2026-27004)

0
Medium
Published: 08/13/2026 (08/13/2026, 17:21:32 UTC)
Source: GCVE Database
Product: openclaw-cli

Description

OpenClaw CLI versions up to 2026.2.14 have a session visibility configuration issue in multi-user shared-agent deployments, potentially exposing session transcript content across peers. Additionally, Telegram webhook mode lacked fallback to per-account webhook secrets, risking secret misconfiguration. The vulnerability mainly affects less-trusted, multi-user environments, with limited impact in single-agent or trusted setups. A patch is planned in version 2026.2.15 to enforce session visibility scoping and fix Telegram webhook secret fallback.

Technical Analysis

The OpenClaw CLI session tools (sessions_list, sessions_history, sessions_send) allowed broader session targeting than intended in some shared-agent, multi-user deployments due to a configuration and visibility scoping issue. This could lead to exposure of session transcript content across peer sessions in less-trusted environments. Additionally, in Telegram webhook mode, monitor startup did not fallback to the per-account webhookSecret if only the account-level secret was configured, potentially causing secret misconfiguration. The vulnerability affects npm package 'openclaw' versions from 2026.1.29 up to but not including 2026.2.15. The fix introduces a new 'tools.sessions.visibility' setting with enforced scoping and resolves the Telegram webhook secret fallback issue.

Potential Impact

In shared-agent, multi-user, less-trusted environments, this vulnerability could expose session transcript content across peer sessions, potentially leaking sensitive information. In single-agent or trusted environments, the practical impact is limited. The Telegram webhook secret fallback issue could lead to improper secret usage or failure to authenticate webhook requests correctly.

Mitigation Recommendations

A patch is available in version 2026.2.15 that enforces session visibility scoping via the 'tools.sessions.visibility' setting and fixes Telegram webhook secret fallback behavior. Users should upgrade to version 2026.2.15 once released. Until then, administrators should review session tool visibility configurations to restrict access appropriately in multi-user environments and verify Telegram webhook secret settings.
