Openclaw cli: OpenClaw: `session_status` sessionId resolution bypasses sandboxed session-tree visibility (CVE-2026-35636)
Description
A vulnerability in openclaw-cli versions 2026.3.11 through 2026.3.24 allows sandboxed sessions to bypass intended session-tree visibility restrictions via the session_status sessionId resolution. This flaw permits sandboxed child sessions to access parent or sibling sessions that should be blocked. The issue was fixed in version 2026.3.25 by enforcing visibility checks after sessionId resolution.

Technical Analysis
The openclaw-cli package versions from 2026.3.11 up to and including 2026.3.24 contain a vulnerability (CVE-2026-35636) where the session_status command resolves a sessionId to a canonical session key before enforcing visibility restrictions. This allows sandboxed child sessions to bypass sandboxed session-tree visibility controls and access parent or sibling sessions that should be inaccessible. The vulnerability was addressed in commit d9810811b6c3c9266d7580f00574e5e02f7663de, which enforces visibility checks after sessionId resolution, preventing sandbox escape.
Potential Impact
Sandboxed sessions could bypass session-tree visibility restrictions, potentially accessing or interacting with sessions outside their allowed scope. This could lead to unauthorized access within the session management system of openclaw-cli. No known exploits in the wild have been reported.
Mitigation Recommendations
A patch is available and was introduced in openclaw-cli version 2026.3.25. Users should upgrade to version 2026.3.25 or later to remediate this vulnerability. No additional mitigation steps are indicated by the vendor advisory.
