Published: 08/13/2026 (08/13/2026, 17:21:32 UTC)
Source: GCVE Database
Product: openclaw-cli

Description

A vulnerability in the openclaw-cli package allows crafted .tar.bz2 archives to bypass safety checks during extraction, causing a local denial of service (DoS) when installing skills. The issue arises because the tar.bz2 installer path uses shell tar logic without the same hardening as the centralized extractor. This flaw affects versions up to 2026.3.1 and has been fixed in version 2026.3.2.

Technical Analysis

The openclaw-cli package's tar.bz2 installer path in src/agents/skills-install-download.ts uses shell tar extraction logic that lacks the hardening guarantees of the centralized archive extractor. This discrepancy allows specially crafted .tar.bz2 archives to bypass special-entry blocking and extracted-size guardrails, leading to a local denial of service by impacting availability during skill installation. The vulnerability affects versions <= 2026.3.1 and was patched in version 2026.3.2.

Potential Impact

An attacker providing a crafted .tar.bz2 archive can cause a local denial of service by bypassing extraction safety checks, impacting availability during skill installation. There is no impact on confidentiality or integrity.

Mitigation Recommendations

A patch is available and has been released in version 2026.3.2. Users should upgrade to this version to remediate the vulnerability.
