Description
OpenClaw CLI versions from 2026.1.29 up to but not including 2026.3.31 contain a vulnerability in the SSH sandbox tar upload functionality. This vulnerability allows the upload process to follow symbolic links, enabling an attacker with SSH access to write arbitrary files on the remote host. Technical Analysis
The OpenClaw CLI package (npm) versions >=2026.1.29 and <2026.3.31 have a vulnerability (CVE-2026-41364) where the SSH sandbox tar upload feature improperly follows symbolic links. This behavior allows an attacker with SSH privileges to write arbitrary files on the remote system by exploiting symlink traversal during tar upload. The maintainers accepted the issue and fixed it in commit 3d5af14984ac1976c747a8e11581d697bd0829dc on 2026-03-31. The fix is included starting from version 2026.3.31.
Potential Impact
An attacker with SSH access can exploit this vulnerability to write arbitrary files on the remote host, potentially leading to unauthorized modification of system files or other security breaches. The vulnerability does not affect confidentiality but impacts integrity and availability, as indicated by the CVSS vector (C:N/I:H/A:H).
Mitigation Recommendations
A patch is available and has been released in OpenClaw CLI version 2026.3.31 and later. Users should upgrade to version 2026.3.31 or newer to remediate this vulnerability. No additional mitigation steps are indicated by the vendor advisory.
