Openclaw cli: OpenClaw: Telegram interactive callbacks could skip commands.allowFrom (CVE-2026-53807)
Description
OpenClaw CLI versions from 2026.1.29 up to but not including 2026.5.6 have a vulnerability where Telegram interactive callbacks can bypass the commands.allowFrom sender allowlist. This allows a Telegram user invoking an affected callback to mark the callback as authorized before the allowlist check is applied. The impact depends on the operator's configuration and whether untrusted input can reach the affected feature. A fix is available in version 2026.5.6. Until patched, restricting Telegram command callbacks to trusted chats and narrowing allowlists is recommended.

Technical Analysis
In OpenClaw CLI versions >=2026.1.29 and <2026.5.6, Telegram interactive callbacks could bypass the commands.allowFrom sender allowlist. Specifically, a Telegram user able to invoke an affected callback could mark the callback as an authorized sender before the allowlist check is enforced. This vulnerability affects only the named feature and does not alter the trusted-operator model of OpenClaw. The practical impact depends on the operator's configuration and whether lower-trust input can reach the vulnerable callback path. The issue is fixed in version 2026.5.6.
Potential Impact
When the vulnerable feature is enabled and reachable, commands may execute based on Telegram callbacks from senders outside the configured allowlist. This could lead to command execution from unauthorized Telegram users if the operator's configuration permits lower-trust input to reach this path. The overall impact is limited by the operator's existing trust boundaries and allowlist configurations.
Mitigation Recommendations
A patch is available in OpenClaw CLI version 2026.5.6. Operators should upgrade to this version to remediate the vulnerability. Until patched, restrict Telegram command callbacks to trusted chats only. Additionally, narrow channel and tool allowlists, avoid sharing a Gateway between mutually untrusted users, and disable the affected feature if it is not needed.
