Openclaw cli: OpenClaw vulnerable to sensitive file disclosure via stageSandboxMedia (CVE-2026-32030)

Published: 08/13/2026 (08/13/2026, 17:21:32 UTC)
Source: GCVE Database
Product: openclaw-cli

Description

OpenClaw CLI versions up to 2026.2.17 are vulnerable to sensitive file disclosure via the stageSandboxMedia function when iMessage remote attachment fetching is enabled. The vulnerability allows arbitrary absolute paths to be copied from a remote host, potentially exposing files outside expected attachment directories. This can lead to confidentiality breaches if an attacker can manipulate attachment path metadata. A fix is pending in the next release with remote attachment path validation. The issue is rated with a CVSS score of 7.5 (high severity).

Technical Analysis

OpenClaw CLI's stageSandboxMedia function accepts arbitrary absolute paths when iMessage remote attachment fetching is enabled (channels.imessage.remoteHost). It uses SCP to copy files from the remote host into local staging without validating the paths. If an attacker can influence the attachment path metadata, files outside the intended iMessage attachment directories on the remote host can be disclosed. The vulnerability affects versions up to and including 2026.2.17. A patch including remote attachment path validation is pending release.

Potential Impact

An attacker capable of tampering with inbound attachment path metadata can cause OpenClaw to disclose arbitrary files readable by the OpenClaw process on the configured remote host. This results in a confidentiality breach. There is no impact on integrity or availability reported.

Mitigation Recommendations

A fix is available and will be included in the next OpenClaw release that implements remote attachment path validation. Users should upgrade to this patched version once released. If remote iMessage attachments are not required, disable iMessage attachment ingestion to mitigate the risk. Additionally, running OpenClaw under least privilege on the remote host can reduce potential exposure.
