Openclaw cli: OpenClaw's gateway tokenless Tailscale auth applied to HTTP routes (CVE-2026-32045)
Description
OpenClaw CLI versions up to 2026.2.19-2 have a vulnerability in tokenless Tailscale authentication that allows bypassing token/password requirements for HTTP gateway routes when tokenless auth is enabled. This weakens authentication boundaries in trusted-network deployments. The issue is fixed in the planned 2026.2.21 release by restricting tokenless Tailscale header authentication to Control UI websocket login only and requiring token/password auth for HTTP gateway routes.

Technical Analysis
When tokenless Tailscale authentication is enabled in OpenClaw CLI (<= 2026.2.19-2), the tokenless path intended only for Control UI websocket authentication could also be used for HTTP gateway authentication calls. This flaw allows bypassing token or password requirements for HTTP routes in trusted-network deployments, weakening expected authentication boundaries. The fix introduces an explicit gate to allow Tailscale header auth only for Control UI websocket authentication, preserving token/password requirements for HTTP gateway routes. The vulnerability is planned to be patched in version 2026.2.21.
Potential Impact
Deployments that rely on token or password authentication for HTTP gateway routes may be downgraded to tokenless authentication if tokenless Tailscale header auth is enabled, weakening the security of HTTP route authentication even within trusted network setups. This could allow unauthorized access to HTTP routes that should require stronger authentication.
Mitigation Recommendations
A patch is available and planned for release in version 2026.2.21. Users should upgrade to this version once published. Until then, follow the recommended setup: keep the Gateway loopback-only or within a trusted host/network boundary, use Tailscale serve/funnel for remote access, and restrict tokenless Tailscale authentication to Control UI websocket login only.
