Published: 08/13/2026 (08/13/2026, 17:21:32 UTC)
Source: GCVE Database
Product: openclaw-cli

Description

OpenClaw CLI's Nextcloud Talk webhook lacked rate limiting on signature verification failures, allowing attackers to brute-force weak shared secrets. This could enable forging of inbound webhook events. The vulnerability affects versions from 2026.1.29 up to but not including 2026.3.28. The issue was fixed in version 2026.3.28 by adding throttling on repeated webhook authentication failures.

Technical Analysis

The Nextcloud Talk webhook integration in OpenClaw CLI did not throttle signature verification failures despite relying on an operator-configured shared secret that may be weak. This allowed an attacker with access to the webhook endpoint to perform online brute-force attacks against the shared secret and subsequently forge inbound webhook events. The vulnerability was fixed in version 2026.3.28 by implementing throttling on repeated webhook authentication failures.

Potential Impact

An attacker able to reach the webhook endpoint could brute-force weak shared secrets due to the lack of rate limiting on signature failures. Successful brute-forcing would allow the attacker to forge inbound webhook events, potentially leading to unauthorized actions or data manipulation via the webhook interface.

Mitigation Recommendations

A patch is available and should be applied. The vulnerability is fixed in OpenClaw CLI version 2026.3.28 and later. Users should upgrade to version 2026.3.28 or newer to mitigate this issue.
