Openclaw cli: OpenClaw's sandbox config hash sorted primitive arrays and suppressed needed container recreation (CVE-2026-27007)

Source: GCVE Database
Product: openclaw-cli

Description

OpenClaw CLI versions up to 2026.2.14 have a configuration integrity vulnerability where the sandbox configuration hash normalization incorrectly sorted primitive arrays, causing order-sensitive configuration changes to be ignored. This leads to stale sandbox containers being reused instead of recreated when array order changes. The issue is fixed in version 2026.2.15 by preserving array order during hash normalization.

Technical Analysis

The vulnerability in OpenClaw CLI (CVE-2026-27007) stems from the `normalizeForHash` function in `src/agents/sandbox/config-hash.ts` which recursively sorted arrays containing only primitive values. This caused order-sensitive sandbox configuration arrays to hash identically despite order changes. Since this hash determines whether sandbox containers are recreated, order-only changes (e.g., Docker `dns` and `binds` array order) were ignored, resulting in reuse of stale containers. The fix preserves array order during hash normalization, ensuring correct detection of configuration changes and proper sandbox container recreation.

Potential Impact

Sandbox containers may not be recreated when order-only configuration changes occur, potentially causing stale or incorrect sandbox environments to persist. This affects the integrity of sandbox configurations but does not directly indicate code execution or data exposure.

Mitigation Recommendations

A patch is available in OpenClaw CLI version 2026.2.15 that preserves array order during hash normalization. Users should upgrade to version 2026.2.15 or later to resolve this issue.
