Description

OpenClaw CLI versions from 2026.2.17 through 2026.2.24 contain a vulnerability in Telegram message_reaction handling that allows unauthorized users to inject reaction-derived system events. This occurs due to a missing sender-authorization check, bypassing configured direct message and group authorization policies. The issue is fixed in version 2026.2.25.

Technical Analysis

A missing sender-authorization check in the Telegram message_reaction handling component of OpenClaw CLI allowed unauthorized Telegram senders to trigger reaction-derived system events. This bypassed configured authorization controls such as dmPolicy, allowFrom, groupPolicy, and groupAllowFrom. The vulnerability affects OpenClaw CLI versions >=2026.2.17 and <=2026.2.24 and was patched in version 2026.2.25. The fix was committed under commit e56b0cf1a04f992ac6ebc775899f48ea31687640.

Potential Impact

Unauthorized Telegram users could inject reaction system events even when reaction notifications and authorization policies were configured to restrict such actions. This could lead to unauthorized system-event injection, potentially impacting system behavior or triggering unintended actions based on reaction events.

Mitigation Recommendations

Users should upgrade OpenClaw CLI to version 2026.2.25 or later, where the missing sender-authorization check has been implemented. Applying this official fix fully mitigates the vulnerability.
