Openclaw cli: OpenClaw's Zalo group sender allowlist bypass permits unauthorized GROUP dispatch
Description
OpenClaw CLI's Zalo plugin had a missing authorization check for group senders, allowing unauthorized GROUP messages to bypass intended allowlist restrictions. This flaw permitted senders not on the configured group allowlist to trigger agent dispatch processing. The issue was fixed in version 2026.2.24 by adding explicit runtime group-policy evaluation and fail-closed behavior for missing configurations.

Technical Analysis
The vulnerability in OpenClaw CLI's Zalo plugin arises from inconsistent enforcement of group access checks before dispatching Zalo GROUP messages. Specifically, when group handling was configured with allowlist controls, unauthorized senders could still send GROUP messages that were processed by agents, bypassing the intended restrictions. The root cause was the lack of explicit runtime evaluation of group policies and sender allowlists prior to dispatch. The fix introduces explicit evaluation of 'groupPolicy', 'groupAllowFrom', and fallback to 'allowFrom' configurations, along with fail-closed behavior if provider configuration is missing. The vulnerability affects versions up to and including 2026.2.23 and is patched in 2026.2.24.
Potential Impact
Unauthorized senders not present in the configured group allowlist could send GROUP messages that were processed by agents, potentially violating intended access controls and allowing unauthorized group message dispatch. This could lead to unintended message processing or information flow in environments relying on strict group sender restrictions.
Mitigation Recommendations
A patch is available in OpenClaw CLI version 2026.2.24 that addresses this vulnerability by enforcing explicit runtime group-policy checks and fail-closed behavior. Users should upgrade to version 2026.2.24 or later to remediate this issue.
