Description

OpenClaw versions prior to 2026.8.1 have a path traversal vulnerability in the QQBot voice attachment handling. This flaw arises because filenames are decoded twice, causing encoded traversal sequences to bypass sanitization. Exploitation allows attackers to write files outside the intended staging directory to other writable locations accessible by the process.

Technical Analysis

The vulnerability in OpenClaw (CVE-2026-100549) involves improper handling of voice attachment filenames in QQBot. Due to double decoding of filenames, encoded path traversal segments reappear after sanitization, enabling attackers to craft voice attachments that write files outside the designated staging directory. This can lead to unauthorized file writes in locations writable by the process, potentially impacting system integrity and availability.

Potential Impact

The vulnerability does not impact confidentiality but can lead to integrity and availability issues by allowing unauthorized file writes outside the intended directory. This could enable attackers to overwrite or place malicious files in locations accessible by the process, potentially disrupting service or facilitating further attacks.

Mitigation Recommendations

A fix is available in OpenClaw version 2026.8.1. Users should upgrade to this version or later to remediate the vulnerability. No additional mitigation guidance is provided in the advisory.
