Description

OpenClaw versions before 2026.8.1 have an authorization scope widening vulnerability in file-transfer allow-always approvals. This flaw allows attackers to reuse standing grants for unreviewed paths by exploiting glob metacharacter interpretation and node display name reuse. As a result, attackers can access sibling paths or different nodes beyond the originally approved scope.

Technical Analysis

The vulnerability in OpenClaw prior to version 2026.8.1 involves improper authorization scope enforcement in file-transfer allow-always approvals. Attackers can manipulate glob metacharacters and node display names to extend their access beyond the intended scope, reusing existing standing grants to access unauthorized paths or nodes. This issue is tracked as CVE-2026-100529 and is classified under CWE-863 (Incorrect Authorization). The CVSS v3.1 base score is 6.4, indicating a high severity with network attack vector, high attack complexity, low privileges required, and user interaction needed. Confidentiality and integrity impacts are high, with no availability impact.

Potential Impact

Successful exploitation allows attackers to bypass intended authorization restrictions on file transfers, gaining unauthorized access to sibling paths or nodes beyond the operator's original approval scope. This can lead to unauthorized disclosure and modification of sensitive data within the affected system.

Mitigation Recommendations

A fix is available in OpenClaw version 2026.8.1. Users should upgrade to this version or later to remediate the vulnerability. No additional mitigation guidance is provided or required beyond applying the official patch.
