Description

OpenClaw versions before 2026.8.1 fail to properly restrict access to operator command cron jobs, allowing model-visible agent callers to read and execute ownerless command jobs. Attackers can inspect stored environment variables and force-run disabled or unscheduled command jobs to access secrets and execute operator-authored commands.

Technical Analysis

The vulnerability in OpenClaw prior to version 2026.8.1 arises from improper access control on operator command cron jobs. Model-visible agent callers can access and run ownerless command jobs without proper authorization. This enables attackers to read sensitive environment variables and execute commands authored by operators, even if those jobs are disabled or not scheduled. The CVSS 3.1 base score is 8.3, indicating high severity with network attack vector, low attack complexity, and requiring low privileges but no user interaction. Confidentiality and integrity impacts are high, with a low impact on availability.

Potential Impact

Attackers with model-visible agent caller privileges can gain unauthorized read access to environment variables and execute operator-level commands by running ownerless cron jobs. This can lead to exposure of secrets and unauthorized command execution, compromising confidentiality and integrity of the system.

Mitigation Recommendations

A fix is available in OpenClaw version 2026.8.1. Users should upgrade to this version or later to remediate the vulnerability. No additional mitigation guidance is provided or required beyond applying the official fix.
