A patch is available in Starlette version 0.14.6_1 that fixes this vulnerability. Users should upgrade to version 0.14.6_1 or later to remediate the issue. No additional mitigation steps are required if the application is updated.

Description

Starlette's FileResponse component contains a vulnerability in its HTTP Range header parsing logic that leads to O(n^2) time complexity. An unauthenticated attacker can send a crafted Range header with many small, non-overlapping ranges, causing CPU exhaustion and denial of service. This affects any Starlette application serving files via FileResponse or StaticFiles, including frameworks built on Starlette such as FastAPI. The vulnerability is fixed in Starlette version 0.14.6_1.
