Description

CVE-2026-41313 is a vulnerability in the pdfly pypdf library where loading a crafted PDF with a large trailer /Size value in incremental mode can cause long runtimes. This can lead to denial of service conditions due to resource exhaustion. The issue has been fixed in pypdf version 6.10.2. Users unable to upgrade immediately can apply the changes from the referenced pull request as a workaround.

Technical Analysis

The vulnerability in pdfly's pypdf component involves handling of the /Size value in the PDF trailer when operating in incremental mode. An attacker can craft a PDF file with an excessively large /Size value, causing the library to experience long runtimes during processing. This results in a denial of service impact by exhausting processing resources. The issue has been addressed and fixed in pypdf version 6.10.2. A workaround is available by applying the changes from pull request #3735 if upgrading is not immediately feasible.

Potential Impact

An attacker can cause denial of service by crafting a PDF that triggers long processing times in pypdf when loaded in incremental mode with a large /Size trailer value. There is no confidentiality or integrity impact reported. The impact is limited to availability due to resource exhaustion.

Mitigation Recommendations

Upgrade to pypdf version 6.10.2 or later to apply the official fix. If upgrading is not possible immediately, apply the changes from pull request #3735 as a temporary workaround.
