Description

The Drupal module 'Permissions by term' allows restricting view access to nodes based on taxonomy terms. A vulnerability exists where, in 'Permission mode', access rights are not properly checked when a node references a deleted taxonomy term and is accessed via JSON:API. Exploitation requires a specific module configuration, the presence of references to deleted terms, and access through JSON:API. A patch is available for versions prior to 3.1.41.

Technical Analysis

The 'Permissions by term' Drupal module has an access control vulnerability (CVE-2026-107311) due to insufficient verification of access rights in 'Permission mode' when a node references a deleted taxonomy term and is accessed via JSON:API. This can potentially allow unauthorized viewing of nodes under these specific conditions. The vulnerability is mitigated by the need for a particular configuration, deleted term references, and JSON:API access. Versions before 3.1.41 are affected, and a patch is available.

Potential Impact

This vulnerability could allow unauthorized users to view nodes that should be restricted if the module is configured in 'Permission mode', the node references a deleted taxonomy term, and the node is accessed via JSON:API. The impact is limited by these specific conditions, reducing the likelihood of widespread exploitation.

Mitigation Recommendations

A patch is available for this vulnerability. Users should upgrade to version 3.1.41 or later of the 'Permissions by term' module to remediate the issue. No additional mitigation steps are indicated beyond applying the official fix.
