Description

Pimcore versions through 2026.3.1 have a stored cross-site scripting (XSS) vulnerability that affects authenticated backend users. This flaw allows users with data object edit permissions to inject malicious scripts by storing unescaped URLs in ExternalImage fields. The injected scripts execute in the admin interface when other users view version previews or diffs. The vulnerability has a medium severity rating with a CVSS score of 5.4.

Technical Analysis

A stored cross-site scripting vulnerability exists in Pimcore through version 2026.3.1. Authenticated backend users who have permission to edit data objects can inject JavaScript payloads by placing unescaped URLs into ExternalImage fields. These payloads break attribute contexts and execute in the admin origin when other users open version preview or diff views, potentially leading to script execution within the administrative interface.

Potential Impact

The vulnerability allows authenticated users with data object edit permissions to execute arbitrary JavaScript in the context of the Pimcore admin interface. This can lead to limited confidentiality and integrity impacts within the administrative environment. There is no indication of availability impact or exploitation in the wild at this time.

Mitigation Recommendations

Patch status is not yet confirmed — check the vendor advisory for current remediation guidance. Until a fix is available, restrict data object edit permissions to trusted users only and avoid opening version preview or diff views on untrusted data. Monitor vendor communications for official patches or updates.
