Technical Analysis

The vulnerability in PlayEdu through version 2.3 is due to a missing authorization check in the CourseController. Authenticated students can exploit this by omitting the department visibility verification, enabling them to access courses and attachments restricted to other departments. The flaw allows enumeration of sequential course and attachment IDs through the course details and attachment download endpoints, exposing course structures and files beyond the attacker's authorized scope.

Potential Impact

Authenticated students can access and download course materials and attachments from departments they are not authorized to view. This leads to unauthorized information disclosure but does not affect data integrity or availability. The impact is limited to confidentiality loss of department-restricted course content.

Mitigation Recommendations

Patch status is not yet confirmed — check the vendor advisory for current remediation guidance. Since no patch or official fix information is provided, organizations should monitor vendor communications for updates. In the meantime, restricting access to authenticated users and reviewing authorization logic in the CourseController may help reduce risk.
