Apply the vendor-provided hotfixes for the affected versions: InstallShield2025R1-CVE-2025-12418-SecurityPatch, InstallShield2024R2-CVE-2025-12418-SecurityPatch, and InstallShield2023R2-CVE-2025-12418-SecurityPatch. These patches resolve the symlink following issue and prevent the Denial of Service condition. No additional mitigation steps are indicated by the vendor advisory.

Description

A potential Denial of Service (DoS) vulnerability exists in all supported versions of Revenera InstallShield including 2025 R1, 2024 R2, 2023 R2, and earlier versions. The issue occurs when a local administrator uninstalls the software and a symbolic link (symlink) is followed during the removal of a user-writable configuration directory, which can cause a DoS condition. Hotfixes addressing this vulnerability have been released for the affected versions.
