Rabbitmq server: RabbitMQ is a messaging and streaming broker. (CVE-2026-66080)
Description
RabbitMQ versions prior to 4.1.11, 4.2.6, and 4.3.0 contain a vulnerability in the rabbitmq_stream_management plugin where the validate_partitions function does not enforce an upper bound on the requested partition count. This can lead to excessive memory allocation (around 8GB) when a large partition count is requested. The vulnerability requires the plugin to be enabled and the caller to have management tag and access to the target virtual host. The issue is fixed in versions 4.1.11, 4.2.6, and 4.3.0.

Technical Analysis
The vulnerability in RabbitMQ's rabbitmq_stream_management plugin involves the validate_partitions function, which only checks that the requested partition count is at least 1 but does not impose an upper limit. Attackers with management privileges and access to the target virtual host can request an excessively large partition count (e.g., lists:seq(0, 500000000)), causing roughly 8GB of memory to be allocated. This can potentially lead to resource exhaustion. The vulnerability affects versions prior to 4.1.11, 4.2.6, and 4.3.0 and is resolved in these fixed versions.
Potential Impact
The vulnerability allows an authenticated user with management privileges and access to the target virtual host to cause excessive memory allocation by requesting a very large partition count. This can lead to resource exhaustion on the RabbitMQ server, potentially impacting availability. There is no indication of remote code execution or data compromise from the provided data.
Mitigation Recommendations
This issue is fixed in RabbitMQ versions 4.1.11, 4.2.6, and 4.3.0. Users should upgrade to one of these versions or later to remediate the vulnerability. No additional mitigation steps are indicated by the vendor advisory.
