Rabbitmq server: RabbitMQ is a messaging and streaming broker. (CVE-2026-67224)
Description
CVE-2026-67224 is a vulnerability in RabbitMQ server's tracing plugin that allows an administrator user to write arbitrary .log files to any filesystem path writable by the RabbitMQ OS user. This occurs because the trace consumer does not apply safe relative path or traversal checks on the write side, enabling potential arbitrary file overwrite or creation outside the intended trace directory. The vulnerability requires the tracing plugin to be enabled and administrator privileges. It is fixed in RabbitMQ versions 3.13.15, 4.0.20, 4.1.11, 4.2.6, and 4.3.1.

Technical Analysis
RabbitMQ server versions prior to 3.13.15, 4.0.20, 4.1.11, 4.2.6, and 4.3.1 contain a path traversal vulnerability in the tracing plugin. The trace consumer constructs the output log file path from user-supplied input without applying safe relative path checks on the write operation, although the read operation does perform such checks, indicating an oversight. This allows an administrator user to write or overwrite arbitrary .log files anywhere writable by the RabbitMQ OS user, potentially including sensitive system paths such as /etc/cron.d/. The vulnerability requires the tracing plugin to be enabled and administrator privileges. The issue is resolved by applying the fixed versions listed.
Potential Impact
An attacker with administrator privileges and the tracing plugin enabled can write or overwrite arbitrary .log files on the filesystem with the permissions of the RabbitMQ OS user. This could lead to unauthorized file modification or creation, potentially impacting system integrity if critical writable paths are targeted. However, exploitation requires administrator-level access and the tracing plugin enabled, limiting the scope of impact.
Mitigation Recommendations
Upgrade RabbitMQ server to version 3.13.15, 4.0.20, 4.1.11, 4.2.6, or 4.3.1 or later, where this vulnerability is fixed. Ensure the tracing plugin is only enabled when necessary and restrict administrator privileges to trusted users. Patch status is confirmed fixed in the specified versions.
