Rabbitmq server: RabbitMQ is a messaging and streaming broker. (CVE-2026-67230)
Description
RabbitMQ versions from 3.13.0 up to but not including 3.13.15, 4.0.20, 4.1.11, and 4.2.6 contain a vulnerability in the Web STOMP WebSocket handler. This flaw allows an unauthenticated client to maintain a connection indefinitely by sending a slow stream of small frames, leading to unbounded accumulation of pre-authentication state. The vulnerability requires the rabbitmq_web_stomp plugin to be enabled and does not require authentication to reach the vulnerable code path. The issue is fixed in versions 3.13.15, 4.0.20, 4.1.11, and 4.2.6.

Technical Analysis
CVE-2026-67230 affects RabbitMQ messaging broker's Web STOMP WebSocket handler in versions from 3.13.0 until 3.13.15, 4.0.20, 4.1.11, and 4.2.6. The vulnerability arises because the handler does not enforce max_frame_size or login_timeout before authentication, allowing unauthenticated clients to keep connections alive with slow frame streams. This leads to unbounded pre-authentication state accumulation, potentially causing resource exhaustion. The vulnerability requires the rabbitmq_web_stomp plugin to be enabled and no authentication is needed to trigger it. Official fixes are available in the specified fixed versions.
Potential Impact
An unauthenticated attacker can maintain a persistent connection to the vulnerable RabbitMQ server's Web STOMP WebSocket handler by sending slow streams of small frames. This behavior can cause unbounded accumulation of pre-authentication state, potentially leading to resource exhaustion and denial of service conditions on the affected server. No authentication is required to exploit this vulnerability, increasing its risk.
Mitigation Recommendations
This vulnerability is fixed in RabbitMQ versions 3.13.15, 4.0.20, 4.1.11, and 4.2.6. Users should upgrade to these or later versions to remediate the issue. If upgrading immediately is not possible, consider disabling the rabbitmq_web_stomp plugin until a patch can be applied, as the vulnerability requires this plugin to be enabled.
