Rabbitmq server: RabbitMQ is a messaging and streaming broker. (CVE-2026-67407)
Description
RabbitMQ versions prior to 4.3.3, 4.2.9, 4.1.14, and 4.0.23 contain an incomplete fix for CVE-2026-44838, resulting in a topic permission bypass vulnerability in MQTT. The issue arises because the escaperegexchar/1 function does not escape the '-' character, allowing a low-privileged authenticated MQTT user to broaden topic authorization by manipulating the clientid in topic permission templates. This vulnerability affects multiple specific older versions of RabbitMQ server and has been fixed in the stated versions.

Technical Analysis
This vulnerability (CVE-2026-67407) in RabbitMQ is an incomplete fix of a previous issue (CVE-2026-44838) where the function escaperegexchar/1 fails to escape the '-' character in MQTT topic permission templates. When the {clientid} variable is embedded inside a character class in topic permission templates, a low-privileged authenticated MQTT user can exploit this to bypass topic permission restrictions, gaining broader read and write access. The issue is resolved in RabbitMQ versions 4.3.3, 4.2.9, 4.1.14, and 4.0.23.
Potential Impact
A low-privileged authenticated MQTT user can bypass topic permission restrictions, potentially allowing unauthorized read and write access to MQTT topics. This could lead to unauthorized message publishing or subscription, impacting confidentiality and integrity of messaging data within affected RabbitMQ deployments.
Mitigation Recommendations
Upgrade RabbitMQ to versions 4.3.3, 4.2.9, 4.1.14, or 4.0.23 or later where this vulnerability is fixed. No other mitigation is indicated by the vendor advisory.
